FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Class timing, supplies, beginner confidence, and studio expectations.

How often are classes offered?

Single day workshops, introductory and advanced watercolor, and acrylics classes are offered in two-month cycles. Drawing is usually offered twice a year, with sessions in spring and fall.

Do I have to know how to draw to take a painting class?

No. For acrylics and watercolor, Penny teaches how to use reference images, photos, and grids. Drawing experience is a bonus, but not required.

Do I have to bring supplies?

Most materials and supplies are included. If you have favorite supplies, brushes, or a larger canvas you want to use, you may bring them. Drawing students are usually asked to bring a 9 x 12 inch sketchbook.

Should I register for beginner classes if I have painted before?

If you have painted before but need more instruction, confidence, or help completing work from start to finish, the beginner class can be a good reset.

What is different about the watercolor classes?

Penny teaches transparent modern watercolor with room for experimentation, mistakes, and creative problem solving. Students build technique, color, composition, and confidence as they go.
